Andrea Stolowitz is a three-time Oregon Book Award winning playwright and librettist. The LA Times calls her work "heartbreaking" and the Orange County Register characterizes her approach as a "brave refusal to sugarcoat issues and tough decisions." Andrea is currently an artist-in-residence at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education. She is also a national resident playwright at New Dramatists in New York City. Andrea is currently working on a new opera with composer Luna Pearl Woolf, an investigative theatre project with The Abbey Theatre’s (Ireland) New Work Department, and is under commission with the Lucille Lortel’s Alcove Project (NYC). Andrea’s play The Berlin Diaries was originally developed and presented at English Theatre Berlin/ International Performing Arts Center (Dir: Daniel Brunet) and was the recipient of the New York City Women’s Fund/NYFA grant. The play was produced in Portland by Hand2MouthTheatre (dir: Jonathan Walters) and as an audio drama created by Artists Repertory Theatre (Dir: Dámaso Rodriguez). The Berlin Diaries will play in five cities in 2024-25, culminating in a production in Washington, DC at TheatreJ. Andrea has an MFA in playwriting from UC-San Diego. Andrea has held faculty positions at Duke University, The University of Portland, Willamette University, New York University, and The National University of Ireland, Galway.
